how to make jungle juice

Jungle Juice is a favorite among drinkers and party goers. Its appeal comes from its sweet flavor and  ability create a fast buzz.  The drinks is usually made with a base alcohol of either Vodka, rum Everclear ( or a combination of all three plus other alcohols) One of the great things about the drink is you can fully customize it to your taste.  This has resulted in a lot of people getting creative and concocting their own signature Jungle Juice recipes which they become known for amongst their circle of friends. One of example of this is Ronnie from  the hit MTV show “Jersey Show”.  Ronnie created a Jungle Juice recipe which became known as  “Ron Ron Juice”.  A  drink that consists of Vodka, Watermelon juice, cranberry juice, and Cherry Juice.  The following will explain how to make jungle juice.

Making Jungle Juice is a relatively simple and straight forward process. There are countless different recipes for different types of Jungle Juice, but there are a few fundamental rules, the cocktail concoction must be potent  and fruit flavored.  Popular Jungle Juice fruit flavors include orange juice, cherry juice, lemonade, and watermelon juice. Typically these alcoholic concoctions include a wide variety of different juices. If someone tries to tell you different its likely they have no idea how to make jungle juice.

Since Jungle Juice is a very popular party drink, it is often made in large batches big enough to serve a large crowd of people.  Many people make it in large punch bowls or pitchers, and subsequently serve it in red plastic party cups.  Apart from being highly potent,  the drink also gets its popularity from being cheap and easy to make.  All it take is a large 1.75 liter bottle of alcohol and a few bottles of juice and you’re set.

Step #1

Decide On A Liquor

Okay so the first step is to decide which liquor or liquors you would like to include in your Jungle Juice. As mentioned above the most popular alcohol for these cocktails are Vodka and Everclear.  Other alcohol options include Triple Sec, Rum,  and Peach Schnapps.  You could literally put any kind of alcohol in it, although  certain alcohols such as Whiskey won’t taste very good with all the fruit flavors. But that’s a whole other article, “how to make jungle juice wrong” perhaps.

Step #2

Choose  A Fruit Juice Or Fruit Juices

Popular juice options include:

  • Orange Juice
  • Watermelon Juice
  • Cherry Juice
  • Lemonade
  • Fruit Punch
  • Grape
  • Strawberry

Choose one or  a variety of juices.

Step #3

Mix

Once you are decided on all the ingredients its time to mix. Simply pour into a blender (with or without ice) and blend until all ingredients are incorporated.

Step #4

Serve

When is comes to serving  you have several options.  Traditional ways include pitchers and punch bowls but your options are not limited to these. One fun way to serve it is inside a watermelon. This is a convenient option if you are making a Jungle Juice recipe with watermelon in it, as you will have a leftover  watermelon minus the insides.  To serve in a watermelon slice melon lengthwise and remove its insides. Mix your concoction in a large mixing bowl and pour into the hollowed out watermelon.  Provide disposable cups and a ladle for serving. And that’s it, now you know how to make jungle juice.

Recipe #3

  • 7 Gallons Fruit Punch
  • 2 Cups Of Sugar

Thoroughly mix everything together and serve cold.

Sometimes the simplest things are the best. This holds true with many Jungle Juice recipes.  Such recipes focus on one or two mixers to go along with the alcohol. This spares you from the that overly taste you get when you mix several mixers in one drink. Whats more is that these simple recipes are inexpensive and only take a minute to make.

One important thing to keep in mind when making any kind of Jungle Juice is to maintain a good alcohol to juice balance. Somewhere around a 4 to 1 or 3 to 1 ratio is typically where most people prefer their cocktails. Keep in mind that if you use a stronger alcohol such as Moonshine or Everclear you will likely need to use less alcohol to maintain the right potency level .

To make a simple Jungle Juice recipe all you need is about two difference juices for mixers and the alcohol of your choice.  A few ideas for mixers include juices such as orange juice, watermelon juice, cherry juice, cranberry juice, grapefruit juice, passion fruit, grape juice, etc. etc.

Below is a simple recipe composed of three basic ingredients: Vodka, Pineapple Juice, and Fruit Punch. Its is a delicious concoction that will produce about one gallon of cocktail.

Simple Jungle Juice Recipe #1

  • 750 ml Bottle Of Vodka
  • 1 Liter Pineapple Juice
  • 2 Liters Fruit Punch

Combine all ingredients and stir thoroughly. Serve chilled

Recipe #2

  • 750 ml Bottle Of Vodka
  • 1 Liter Cherry Juice
  • 2 Liters Watermelon

Cube  about  ¼  of a Watermelon and place in a blender,  add Cherry juice, and Vodka. Blend until smooth.

As you can see  these drinks can get very simple, yet very easy to make.  The above recipe could literally be put together in a minute or two.  If you would like to make your own simple Jungle Juice recipe there are a few key tips to follow.  First of all as mentioned above , you should be wary of how strong the drink is.

A good way to control the strength of your cocktail concoction is to test it out as you are making it.  If its just a bit too strong add a little extra juice.  Another key tip is to use real juice products when possible.  Juice from concentrate is loaded with refined sugar and artificial sweeteners. Apart from being unhealthy, they also don’t taste half as good as 100% real juice.

Quality alcohol is also important.  Its sometimes tempting to use cheap alcohol since its so inexpensive, but when you wake up in the morning with a violent hangover you will wish you spent a few extra bucks for a quality liquor.

A 5 gallon batch of Jungle Juice is the perfect amount for a mid sized to large party or get together.  Considering one serving is about eight ounces and there are 640 ounces in 5 gallons, this size recipe will yield about 80 servings. More than enough to get the party going.

Typically the alcohol to juice ratio in Jungle Juice recipes is about 4 to 1. That’s three parts Juice to every one part alcohol.  This ratio is arbitrary considering you should make drink according to how strong you want it.  There a few factors when considering how strong the drink should be. For one consider how long your party or gathering is expected to last. If you want to gain a slow and gradual buzz then a an alcohol to juice ration of 5 to 1 or 6 to 1 is advisably.  A 1 to 1 or 2 to 1 ratio does produce a rather strong concoction.   If its too strong some people might avoid drinking it and those who do drink it might get drunk too fast.  The 4 to 1 ratio is right in the middle ground of potency making it the preferred ratio for Jungle Juice. This ratio breaks  down to 25% alcohol and 75% juice.  Below is a recipe with that exact ratio. If you can’t find the specified juices in gallon form  you may have to do some math and purchase a variety of smaller liter bottles. Remember there are 3.78 liters in one gallon (you could round it up to 4).

5 Gallon Jungle Juice Recipe

  • 5    (750 ml) Bottles  Vodka or Everclear
  • 1 Gallon Orange Flavored Drink
  • 1 Gallon Pink Lemonade
  • 1 Gallon Pineapple Juice
  • 1 Gallon Fruit Punch

Place everything in a large container or punch bowl and stir throughly.  Refrigerate for 30-60 minutes or until chilled.  If the end result is stronger or weaker than desired feel free to add extra juice or alcohol.

There are several optional ingredients and ideas to give the Jungle Juice a boost.  A nice touch would be to add slices of oranges or lemons.  Adding pieces of fruit to the liquid allows them to absorb the booze and become infused. You can then eat the fruit for a nice buzz.  Also consider purchasing some extra juice to be used as ice cubes.  To do this simply pour some juice into an ice tray and freeze for an hour or two. This will make juice flavored ice cubes you can place in the Jungle Juice to keep it cold.

Substitution Options

If you do not like Vodka you could swap it out for Gin  or Everclear.  Theoretically you could use any clear alcohol.  Although drinks such as white rum wouldn’t meld welll with the Pink Lemonade flavor

If you want to do away with the pink lemonade altogether, you could switch it for  Roses Mojito Roses. Both are very similar in color.

The Tonic water is absolutely unsubstitutable as it is what makes the drink glow Aqua Marine.

So there’s no disputing that Jungle Juice tastes amazing. But lets face it with all the different liquors and juices required to make it, the cocktail can become an expensive endeavor.  Many recipes call for expensive liquors such as Alize in addition to four or five other liquors. Fortunately there are several ways to make the drink on a budget. Using a cheap Jungle Juice recipe will . The amount of money you save will depend on how much of the drink you need to make. But typically a good budget recipe will save you atleast 50% of what you normally would pay.

Cheap Jungle Juice Recipe #1

The following budget recipe can be made on the cheap.  It will yield approximately 5 Gallons

  • 4 (750 ml) Bottles Of Generic Vodka    $30 – $40
  • 2 Gallons Prepared Powdered Orange Drink (Tang Works) $2-$3
  • 2 (24 oz) Containers Of Generic fruit punch or Fruit Punch Powdered Mix $4-$5
  • 4 Quarts Generic Pink Lemonade $6- $8
  • 2 Quarts Orange Juice $3-$4
  • 2 Quarts Canned Pineapple Juice $3-$4

Total Cost =  $48 – $64

Tips On Making Jungle Juice Cheap

Use Less Alcohol

One key way to make cheap Jungle Juice is to use less alcohol. Yeah I know that sounds like blasphemy but alcohol is the most expensive ingredient in the juice so using less will obviously lower your cost.  It will likely work out for the best as often times its good a for party to gain a gradual buzz.

Buy Cheap Liquor

Another way to save money to buy cheap generic alcohol. A bottle of top shelf Vodka or Gin can cost anywhere from $20 – $50 for one 750ml bottle. However the cheap bottom shelf stuff costs around $8-$10 for the same volume. The only downside to purchasing cheap liquor is the obvious fact that it will likely be low quality which could very well end up giving you a nasty hang over.

Make Less

One of the more obvious ways to make this drink for cheap is to make less.  When making a huge batch of alcholic drink it can be easy to make too much , the left overs end up getting wasted or dumped over someones head at the end of the night. To make less and avoid wasting alcohol calculate how many people will be drinking and how much juice your particular recipe will yield.

Know Where To Shop For Ingredients

Knowing where to buy the ingredients for your Jungle Juice can also save you a lot of money.  Avoidbig name grocery stores and opt for a dollar store when buying your  juice mixers.  A quart of orange juice at the supermarket can cost you $3 – $4 dollars while at a dollar store it will only set you back one buck.  Also be careful where you buy your alcohol.  Many corner liquor stores totally rip you off on liquor, while supermarkets are typically the ones who have the best deals. It is not uncommon for them to have several specials on liquor at once.
